White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said he`ll begin sifting names for a new general manager on Tuesday, but he doesn`t expect a decision until next week at the earliest.
”I didn`t do anything today because my schedule was packed,” Reinsdorf said Monday night.
Reinsdorf has publicly announced his intention to interview people outside the organization, but Sox sources say Reinsdorf has made it clear he`s planning to fill Larry Himes` vacated job from within the organization.
Many believe his choice is Joe Nossek, the Sox`s eye-in-the-sky scout. He`d be in charge of trades and player evaluation, while longtime staffer Dan Evans would continue to perform the administrative duties he did under Himes. Nossek hasn`t formally interviewed with Reinsdorf, who said no one will be named ”until the team gets back from the Coast.”
That`s the same time Nossek will get back-late Sunday after a game in Seattle.

Cash for Carlton? It`s not clear yet whether Carlton Fisk will be among the players who`ll receive a share of Monday`s $102.5 million collusion ruling for 1987 free agents.
”We`ll see,” Fisk said. ”I guess all the cases have to be individually handled.”
Fisk is still awaiting an estimated $600,000 from a previous collusion case. Also affected is Sox broadcaster Tom Paciorek, who was involved in every collusion case.
The new Baines: Tony LaRussa was asked to describe the biggest change in Harold Baines since he managed Baines with the Sox.
Said LaRussa: ”He`s more openly critical of the manager than he used to be. He second-guesses. He shows up at the park whenever he wants. He`s a prima donna, but he`s a great hitter.” LaRussa was smiling the entire time.
