Trace Armstrong`s sprained left ankle was feeling well enough Thursday for him to practice and joke around.
Armstrong had jumped offside in Sunday`s 17-0 win over Seattle, nullifying Richard Dent`s one-handed interception and 37-yard touchdown return. In practice Wednesday, Dent had fallen on Armstrong and caused the ankle injury. Was this Dent`s payback?
”Oh no,” Armstrong laughed. ”He was offside, too. If that`s the situation, I owe him one. He`d better watch his knees today.”
Armstrong, who reported some sorness but expects to be ready Sunday, will be pitted against Green Bay`s highly publicized offensive tackle, Tony Mandarich, currently featured in TV commercials knocking the Bears.

”He`s the highest-rated player at his position (in last year`s draft), and he is a big-time player,” Armstrong said. ”He`s making commercials and all that good stuff. Maybe I`ll go up there, play well against him and make some Big Mac commercials.”
Channel crossing: William Perry, Steve McMichael and Dan Hampton commandeered Mike Ditka`s golf cart before a practice this week and went for a short ride. They almost ran over a group of television cameramen.
”Hey, that`s Channel 5, that`s your guy,” Hampton shouted to McMichael, who is co-host with Mark Giangreco on WMAQ-TV`s Sunday night sports show.
Upon further review: The coaching staff went over the film of Sunday`s game and credited Armstrong with two sacks and Dent one. Originally, Armstrong was given just one while Hampton had 1 1/2 and Dent a half.
Honorable mention: Shaun Gayle (9 tackles, 1 interception, 2 deflections, 1 forced fumble) was nominated for the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award won by Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Neal Anderson (101 yards rushing, 2 TDs, 5 receptions for 42 yards) was nominated for the offense award won by Green Bay quarterback Anthony Dilweg.
