Forward Duane Sutter, who played 11 National Hockey League seasons, is likely to retire, Blackhawks coach Mike Keenan said. ”He`ll probably take a position with us as our western Canadian scout.”

– Keenan will decide the fate this week of popular winger Al Secord, a Stadium favorite. Secord returned to the Hawks last season as a free agent, and the club is trying to decide whether to offer the 32-year-old a new contract.

– Denis Savard will continue to wear the uniform number 18 as a Montreal Canadien. That number was formerly worn by Canadiens General Manager Serge Savard. ”With the name Savard on the sweater, it`ll be a good reason to retire that number in a few years,” Serge quipped.

– Defenseman Bob Murray thinks his chances to return for a 16th season with the Hawks ”have dwindled now that they made the deal for Chris Chelios.”

Murray is discussing various job options with Keenan, including the possibility of playing again.

– ”With Savard gone, that fourth center spot is now mine to lose,” young Hawks center Mike Hudson said. ”I plan to take the bull by the horns and win it.”
