”The recipe for our bread goes back to 424 B.C. and is from the region of Calabria, where the Turano family has its roots,” said Giancarlo Turano, vice president of sales and marketing. Called Pane Mariano, the 8-ounce loaf is available in Chicago-area restaurants such as Bice, Santorini, Printer`s Row, Trattoria Roma and more, says Turano.
”We`re using the same recipe that my father used when first baking bread here in 1958,” adds Turano. The loaf is ”all natural, unbleached white flour, with no preservatives, no chemicals ,” says Turano. The bread also can be found at Turano Baking Company`s two shops, 6501 W. Roosevelt Rd., Berwyn, and 142 N. Bloomingdale Rd., Bloomingdale.
