Not too long ago health food and fine dining were two very separate things. But the two will merge at the ”Foods of the Earth” gala April 6 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom, 151 E. Wacker Dr. The black tie gala is a benefit for the EarthDay `90 Chicago committee and will feature a talk by national EarthDay organizer Denis Hayes and a seven-course meal of organic foods prepared by well-known chefs from restaurants such as Gordon, Froggy`s and Charlie Trotter.
”It`s just going to be business as usual for us,” said chef Charlie Trotter whose regular menu features organic foods and an extensive vegetarian selection.
”People seem to be more aware of the environment and want to live more harmoniously with it,” he said. ”So it`s a definite trend for fine dining restaurants to be committed to fresh, naturally raised products.”
The ”Food of the Earth” program will begin at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour featuring organic wines and a jazz piano performance.
Tickets are $100 per person and are available by calling Jill Goldman at the EarthDay `90 Chicago offices at 321-8088.
