Move over, G. Gordon Liddy. Another covert operator wants a TV career. Richard Secord, who helped engineer Iran-contra into a deniable operation, is following Watergate`s master plumber into tubeland. While Liddy joined ”Miami Vice” as a drug kingpin after leaving prison, however, Secord wants his own talk show. ”I think my experience qualifies me far better than a lot I`ve watched,” said Secord, who pleaded guilty to lying to congressional investigators. Sentenced to probation, the retired Air Force major general is hustling his ”Findings and Facts” show on the small-screen market.

THEIR NAILS AREN`T RUSTY It`s ”Where the Boys Are” time again, but not all college students heading to Florida for spring break are intent on beer and bikinis. In Melbourne, 17 American University students are getting constructive. ”This group really wants to work. They came with their hammers and tools and their nail aprons on,” said Joy Willard-Williford, project director for the local Habitat for Humanity. The students, who arrived Sunday, are putting in eight- hour work days and spending nights at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Are they also heading for Daytona Beach? Sure-for an Amnesty International rally. SOBER, BUT REAL TIPSY Before Illinois` floating card games get under way, officials may want to ponder the deck-that is, how to keep it from going off the deep end. That`s the advice from Texas, where certain forms of dancing almost capsized the Granbury Queen. Seems that the 74-foot paddlewheeler started swaying awhile back on Lake Granbury, near Ft. Worth. ”I couldn`t figure it out until I looked downstairs and saw these people doing the bunny hop,” said owner Gary Miller, who promptly banned the dance to keep his dinner cruises from going into the drink.

AFTER 52 YEARS, `I DO` AGAIN If Joseph and Elizabeth Pipkin are on their second honeymoon, they deserve it. The two, both 77, were married over the weekend in Downstate Meadowbrook-52 years after they got divorced in Oklahoma. ”We were just too young,” said the bride, who got reacquainted after being widowed over the winter. The groom thinks they have plenty of time for married life. ”My dad married at 78,” he said. ”He lived to 105.”

A PARENT`S PLEA ON AIDS With one child dead from AIDS and another endangered, actor Paul Michael Glaser and his wife took their desperate campaign for more research to Congress on Tuesday.

The onetime star of television`s ”Starsky and Hutch” reminded House Budget Committee members that AIDS killed his daughter, Ariel, 7, and that son Jacob, 5, also was infected.

”He has a chance his sister didn`t have, because in the battle against AIDS there is hope,” said Glaser, pleading for more federal research money to find a cure before Jacob`s virus turns active.

Glaser`s wife, Elizabeth, was infected via a blood transfusion administered while delivering Ariel in 1981. She apparently transmitted the virus to her children while breast-feeding.

”If the federal government moves at the pace it is accustomed to, my son will probably not live,” said Mrs. Glaser, who does not yet have an active case.

Federal health officials forecast that, if the trend continues, AIDS will be among the top five killers of children by 1994.
