What`s cooking? General Manager Bob Pulford attended Tuesday night`s game between Quebec and Winnipeg, leading to further speculation that Pulford is pursuing a deal with the Nordiques. Quebec GM Martin Madden has been a frequent visitor to Hawk games in recent weeks.

There have been rumors that Pulford might be seeking left wing Michel Goulet, the third-leading scorer for the struggling Nordiques with just 12 goals and 19 points. Goulet is also a minus-20.

– Teen no more: Center Jeremy Roenick left his teen days behind him on Wednesday when he celebrated his 20th birthday.

– Eagles downed: Hard-hitting forward Mike Eagles will be lost from four to six weeks with a bruised kidney. He suffered the injury in Sunday`s loss to Calgary, but no one seems to know when or how it happened. Bob Bassen was recalled from Indianapolis to take Eagles` spot, while coach Mike Keenan returned winger Everett Sanipass and defensemen Bruce Cassidy and Ryan McGill to the minor-league affiliate.

– Dangerous practice: Minnesota was missing three of its tough guys Wednesday. Defenseman Mark Tinordi was sidelined by a concussion he incurred in the morning workout at the Stadium when he stepped on Neal Broten`s stick and hit his head on the boards. The North Stars were without their three 100- plus penalty-minute players-Tinordi (133), Basil McRae (185) and Shane Churla (187). McRae and Churla are serving suspensions.

– Together again: The reuniting of brothers Neal and Aaron Broten, acquired Jan. 5 by Minnesota from New Jersey, has made their mom happy. ”Now she only has to keep track of two teams rather than three,” said Neal. Their brother, Paul, plays in the Rangers` organization. Neal and Aaron played high school hockey together in Roseau, Minn.
