Joliet West never trailed and never let Sandburg get within striking distance during a 63-59 victory in a SICA crossover Thursday night in Joliet. Senior guard Tammie Beckley tossed in 20 points, including 10 of 12 free throws, 6 of 8 in the fourth quarter. Alison Arnoldi added 14 points, Jackie Williams had 11 points and 8 rebounds and Jennifer Bishop had 12 points and 12 rebounds despite being sick with the flu.

Said Joliet West coach Tracy Djerf: ”We work real hard on our free throws and it paid off. We did the same thing in our win over Maine West. Sandburg kept coming at us. I thought we played well.”

Joliet West (6-3), upset 62-51 in overtime by Lockport Tuesday, cruised to a 37-23 halftime lead against Sandburg and staved off the previously unbeaten Eagles (9-1).

Sandburg`s Kim Darland had 18 points, 14 in the second half and 10 in the fourth quarter. Janine Zumerchic (8 rebounds) had 17 points, including 9 in the fourth quarter. Darland and Zumerchic combined for all 19 Sandburg points in the fourth quarter.

Darland fouled out with :41 left after hitting a jumper to cut Joliet West`s lead to 62-57. Beckley converted the front end of a 1-and-1 with :41 left to build the edge to 63-57 and a rebound basket with :19 left made it 65-57. Sandburg could get no closer. Missy Kies had 11 points and 4 steals for Sandburg.

”We came in scared. Joliet West gets all the publicity. Nobody knows who we are,” said Sandburg coach Gary Bonk.

Marshall tournament-No. 4 Marshall (4-0) crushed Carver 83-24 and Evanston (6-0) clipped Robeson 65-49 to set up a battle of unbeatens in the title game Friday. Kenya Pittman had 27 points for Marshall and Ann Carlson had 18 points and 14 rebounds for Evanston.

Marshall breezed to a 39-16 halftime lead and coasted. Pittman was aided by Kim Wil-liams (21 points), Sabrina Harris (11) and Marie Scott (10 points, 13 rebounds).

Carlson had assistance from Erica Handelman (11 points) and Penny Armstrong (10) for Evanston, which led 34-23 at the half and led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter.

Michelle Brownlee had 12 points, Safairah Redmond 11 and Chitcaun Burton 10 for Robeson (7-1).

”We`ll have to play a smart game against Marshall,” said Evanston coach Cynthia Bumbry, whose Wildkits will be going after their first title in five years in the tournament. ”We definitely can`t make the mistakes we made today against a team like Marshall and expect to win. Everything will have to come together.”

West Aurora 66, Lake Park 33-Melinda Spearman (18 points), Tricia Passley (17) and Tiki Massey (10 points, 16 rebounds) combined to lead sixth-ranked West Aurora (4-0, 10-0) to the Upstate Eight victory. Katie Stein had 16 points, nine rebounds and nine blocked shots for Lake Park (2-2, 5-6).

Conant 53, Elk Grove 33-No. 9 Conant (8-2, 2-1) built a 30-12 halftime lead and coasted behind Lisa Bluege (16 points) and Cathy Rojek (12) in the Mid-Suburban South.

Carmel 52, Marillac 47-Carmel (6-1, 2-0) remained unbeaten in the GCAC North as Stephanie Seier had 17 points (3 three-pointers) and Michele Mullner 14. Lucy Ortyri had 17 (3 three-pointers) for Marillac (6-1).

Benet 70, Maria 66-Mary Zahour scored 18 points and Diane Castorina added 14 for No. 10 Benet Academy (9-1). Sally Jo Bedalow had 22 for Maria.Argo 55, Oak Lawn 46-Lisa O`Lear dropped in 17 points and Jenny Bochank 12 as Argo

Seton 67, St. Barbara 19-Lisa Swiatkowski had 15 points and Kim Jackson and Bridget Dilger 10 apiece to spark Seton Academy (4-2, 1-1) in the GCAC East.

St. Benedict 64, Josephinum 33-Carolina Reyes (14 points, 8 rebounds), Denise Hamilton (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Jeanine Weber (13 points) led St. Benedict (5-5, 2-0) to the Chicago Prep victory.

Woodlands 31, Willows 27-Dara Long scored 19 points, including 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarters, to spark Woodlands Academy (3-1).

Washington 69, Harlan 46-Katrina Brown scored 10 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter when Washington (4-3, 3-0), leading 42-39 after three, went on a 27-7 tear. Roquayyah Brown had 30 points for Harlan (9-1, 3-1).

Bowen 49, Julian 37-Ann Smith scored 23 points and Erica Lockwood added 17 to lead Bowen in the Blue-South. Clarice Alexander had 13 for Julian.

Guerin 45, Good Counsel 26-Brenda Fergus` 16 points and 16 rebounds powered Mother Guerin (5-2) in the GCAC crossover.CVS 46, Englewood 39-Chicago Vocational (6-2, 2-1) rolled in the Red-South behind Patrice Jones (18 points, 9 rebounds) and Renee Rivers (9 points, 11 rebounds).

Fenger 35, Hyde Park 31-Lachickee Turley had 18 points to lift Fenger

(2-2, 2-2) in the Blue-South. Laquanta Sandifer had 10 for the losers.

Richards Voc. 33, Bogan 28-Dianah Reed had 10 points for Richards Vocational (2-1 in the Blue-Central); Carmen Jones had 11 for Bogan (0-3).-

Ridgewood 52, Holy Trinity 13-Chris Doyle (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Cindy Siemers (11, 10) led Ridgewood (2-5, 1-0) in the Chicago Prep.

Antioch 83, North Chicago 28-Liz Johnson scored 21 points, Sue Ozga 15 and Teri Farnsworth added 11 points and 9 rebounds as Antioch (5-3, 3-2)

rolled in the North Suburban. Terra Jarrett managed 16 points for North Chicago.

Regina 79, Notre Dame 59-Bridgette Colleran (16 points), Maureen Martin

(13) and Bridgette Toomey (12) paced Regina Dominican (5-5) in a GCAC crossover. Kim Schmidt had 25 for Notre Dame.

Warren 61, Niles North 32-Christy Baker (20 points) and Jasmine Strange

(10 points, 11 rebounds) led the way for Warren (8-0, 5-0) in the North Suburban.

Prospect 58, Deerfield 26-Michelle Thorne had 19 points, Trisch Murray 16 and Gina Cagatolla 10 to lift Prospect; Kristi Reiarden had 10 for Deerfield. Wauconda 45, Marian Central 24-Andrea Howard had 12 points to lead Wauconda (3-5, 2-1) in the Northwest Suburban.Hinckley 43, Sandwich 32-Leah Schindel scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Hinckley-Big Rock

Thornwood 47, Joliet St. Francis 29-Nikki Smith`s 21 points and 11 rebounds paced Thornwood (6-3).

Thornton 35, Eisenhower 22-Kristi Green had 15 points and 20 rebounds to power Thornton (2-5, 1-1) in the SICA East.-

Resurrection 37, Madonna 35-Madonna held the ball for a final shot, but Kiki Calumet stole it and scored a layup at the buzzer to give Resurrection

(3-4) the victory. Calumet had 10 points and Tammy Smith 11 for the winners. Madonna is 2-3.

Round Lake 66, Marengo 37-Cyndie Donner scored 32 of her 34 points in the first three quarters to lead Round Lake (8-1, 3-0 in the Northwest Suburban). Marengo is 3-3, 1-2.

Zion-Benton 53, Stevenson 25-Lisa Shelton had 16 points and Lashon Kelly 14 rebounds for Zion (5-3, 4-1 in the North Suburban).Genoa-Kingsto n 56, Richmond-Burton 48-Adonia Beardsley scored 23 points and J.J. Mason had 13 to lead Genoa (4-4, 2-1 in the Big Eight). Kelly Schmidt paced Richmond (4-4, 1-2) with 13.

Glenbard South 45, Glenbard North 32-Meg Boddy had 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and six steals to lead Glenbard South (5-2, 1-1) in the Du Page Valley. Glenbard North (3-5, 0-2) was led by Renee Schmidt`s 16 points.

Glenbard East 42, Wheaton Central 34-Glenbard (7-2) lifted its record in the Du Page Valley to 2-0 as Kari McCarty scored 14 points and Katrina Tyczka added 11. Mari Maaske had 12 for Wheaton (5-2, 1-1).

St. Francis de Sales 58, Lourdes 31-Jeri Higgins scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for St. Francis (4-3). Kim Rau added 10 points and 12 rebounds and Colleen Sabin had 11 for St. Francis.

Kankakee 65, Bremen 53-Four players scored in double figures for Kankakee including Pam Brooks (20), Heidi Turner (13), Kala Scott (12) and Kollina Tucker (10). Maggie Kibelkis poured in 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Bremen (4-3).

Lincoln-Way 47, Bolingbrook 31-Larisa Wherley had 15 points and Brenda Parks added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Lincoln-Way (6-2, 2-0).-

Nazareth 42, Riverside-Brookfield 38-Debbie Murphy`s 16 points led Nazareth (2-4).

Lake Zurich 55, Grayslake 53-Tricia Znorski had 15 points to lead Lake Zurich (3-4, 2-1) in the Northwest Suburban; Chris Luporia had 22 for Grayslake.

Fenton 54, Mundelein 41-Anna Makris (17 points) and Kris Wrasse (16 points, 12 rebounds) paced Fenton (5-3, 4-1) in the North Suburban.
