Our Flick of the Week is ”Limit Up,” which deals with the nasty world of futures trading.

”Limit Up” is an amateurish attempt at a lighthearted look at the Chicago soybean futures market, with Nancy Allen fighting a la ”Working Girl” to achieve her place in the male-dominated trading pit. Standing in her way is a crusty old bean played by Dean Stockwell.

The silliest part of the film is the use of a supernatural figure

(Danitra Vance) as Allen`s devilish godmother who gives her inside information.

In the background of many shots are dozens of young men frantically trading with each other; their lives could make a good film. ”Limit Up”

isn`t that film.

”Limit Up” is playing at the Burnham Plaza, Water Tower, Webster Place and outlying theaters. Rated PG-13. (STAR)
