”Eventually we want to develop a home that is identifiably Midwestern, like the Cape Cod is for New England,” said Steve Slack, senior editor of Midwest Living magazine, which co-sponsored, along with the American Wood Council, the building of the first ”Idea Home.” The 5,000-square-foot home in suburban Indianapolis includes features culled from the preferences of a panel of Midwesterners and is featured in the magazine`s October issue. Visited by 13,000 people since the spring opening, the house has yet to be sold, possibly because of the $550,000 price tag, ”but we have sold two sets of floor plans,” said spokesman Tia Digby.
Officials already are planning a second Idea Home, set for 1991 in south suburban Chicago with a ”New American Gothic” theme.
