What do other players think of the PGA Championship?

Curtis Strange: ”People talked a lot last year about it not remaining a major, but I don`t see it happening. They`re going to a lot of courses lately that aren`t the old, historic courses and that hasn`t helped the cause any, but I don`t see any other tournament taking its place.”

Blaine McCallister, who won this year`s Honda Classic: ”Any time you play in one of the majors, it`s important because of all the prestige everyone puts in it. You have to take it seriously, but you have to play it like any other tournament.”

Calvin Peete: ”The caliber of the field makes it important, and they always seem to play it on the courses that play long and it favors the long hitters.”

Jim Gallagher Jr., who`ll be in his first PGA: ”Growing up as the son of a club pro, it`s really special to me. My dad`s come close to playing in it and I`ve had my eye on it ever since I was in PGA junior events. I know both sides of the tournament. I`ve known a lot of the people running it since I was a kid and I know what a good job they do. This tournament helps both sides of the ranks.”

Curt Byrum, right after winning this year`s Hardee`s Classic: ”Being a major, it`s important and I want to win a major like anybody else. But at this point in my career, it isn`t any more important to me than the Hardees.”
