Capercaillie
Sidewaulk (Green Linnet) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Capercaillie is one of the best of the new generation of traditional Scottish bands. Their sound is otherworldly and richly evocative of their native land, yet they`re not afraid to inject some modern touches into the centuries-old material. Much of the band`s individuality can be attributed to the ethereal vocals of Karen Matheson, the energetic fiddling of Charlie McKerron and the layered effect of Donald Shaw`s keyboards. Four songs are in Scots Gaelic (translations are included), two in English. Of the latter, Matheson`s interpretation of John Martyn`s ”Fisherman`s Dream” is a lovely thing to behold.
