How often do you find seven women who are not only delighted to show up at a party in practically the same thing-but actually plan to wear matching outfits?

Only, to be sure, when the party`s in honor of the designer who created those coordinated clothes. That`s what happened when ”the sprucettes” showed up at the cocktail-party opening of Mark Heister`s fashion exhibit at the Chicago Historical Society wearing different combinations of spruce green separates in jersey, silk or crepe from Heister`s fall `88 collection. ”We wanted to pay tribute to Mark,” said Dorothy Fuller, ”by showing that women of different ages and heights and shapes can wear his clothes.”

Heister`s 24 designs from 1975 to `88 will be on view through July 16 at the Historical Society on Clark Street at North Avenue.
