Inveterate shopper Susan Dresner, a personal image and wardrobe consultant, visited 600 stores in 14 cities over a seven-month period in 1987. The result: a $9.95 paperback (Peregrine Smith) called ”Shopping on the Inside Track: A Professional Shopper`s Guide to the Best Women`s Stores in America`s Most Traveled Cities.” (All that on the cover of a paperback?)
Four-star stores are ”excellent, worth a detour.”
Only nine stores get four stars-and two of the shops are in Chicago:
Stanley Korshak and Ultimo.
Others? New York: Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys; Dallas: the Neiman Marcus headquarters store; Los Angeles: Bullocks Wilshire; San Francisco: I. Magnin, Wilkes Bashford, Obiko.
By the way, a one-star emporium means ”fair, visit out of necessity.”
We won`t mention those.
