Lu Parker scored 22 points and got double-figure scoring help from two teammates as No. 16 Proviso West escaped with a taut 58-54 victory over visiting Thornridge in Hillside Tuesday.

Parker, who scored 11 points in each half, fired in four three-pointers. Dave Broz added 13 points and Cliff Williams 12.

Proviso (6-1) led 26-19 at the half, but was outscored 21-14 in the third quarter as Thornridge rallied. The fourth quarter began with the game tied at 40.

Townsend Orr scored 16 points for Thornridge, the team`s only player to reach double figures. The loss was the third in the last four games for Thornridge (5-3).

GLENBARD S. FIGHTS OFF WESTMONT

Glenbard South had trouble getting fired up for a nonconference date against Westmont Tuesday night, and it showed as the Raiders almost blew an 11-point halftime lead before moving past the host Sentinels 69-56.

Glenbard South (5-2), after taking a 17-14 first-quarter edge, fell behind 26-23 midway through the second quarter before rallying with a 15-1 blitz that included a 13-0 run to take a 38-27 lead at the intermission.

Westmont (2-5) used a 9-0 tear to close to within 44-42 in the third quarter before Rob Borchardt, Glenbard`s 6-foot-6-inch senior center who finished with 30 points and nine rebounds, sank two free throws with 1:52 left to start Glenbard on an 8-2 run that staked Glenbard to a comfortable 54-44 third-quarter lead.

Glenbard held off Westmont by sinking 11 of 13 free throws in fourth quarter.

”I`m just glad to get out of here with the win,” said Glenbard South coach Dave Lohrke. ”It`s tough to get the kids up for a nonconference game on a Tuesday night and after a big conference win like we had over West Chicago Friday.

Marist 63, Joliet Catholic 56-Junior Carl Cozen scored 24 points and Jim Adams added 16 as No. 17 Marist (6-0, 3-0), trailing 34-33 at the half, rallied past Joliet Catholic in the East Suburban Catholic. Mike Meyer had 21 points and Darren Freeman 10 for Joliet (2-6, 1-2).

St. Laurence 62, Bogan 42-Brent Bowers had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for St. Laurence (5-3). Steve Holt had 15 for Bogan (2-6).

Morton 81, Reavis 70-Pat Woods scored 35 points, including three second-quarter three-pointers, as Morton (4-3) romped in nonconference action. Tashir Ali had 20 for winless Reavis (0-8).

Carmel 57, Holy Cross 54-Eric Maloney scored 12 of his game-high 14 points in the second half to spark Carmel (3-3, 1-2) in the East Suburban Catholic.

IMSA 78, Ida Crown 57-Joe Turek and Matt McClain tallied 23 points apiece as Illinois Math & Science (5-1) rolled over Ida Crown. Dan Altschul had 18 for Ida Crown (4-2).

St. Joseph 60, St. Patrick 57-William Gates and Mark Layton scored 17 points apiece as No. 2 St. Joseph (7-0, 3-0) fought off upset-minded St. Patrick (5-2, 2-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Terry Cameron scored 23 points for the Shamrocks, who rallied from a 32-27 halftime deficit to lead briefly in the fourth quarter.

St. Viator 55, Notre Dame 48-George Dulles (14 points) and Paul McAndrews (11) led St. Viator (4-3, 2-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Rich Aigner had 16 and Jim Haack 15 for Notre Dame (1-6, 0-3).

Sandwich 62, Plano 51-Shawn Judd netted 14 points and Rich Livingston and Steve Beckwith 13 apiece to lift Sandwich (7-0, 3-0) in the Interstate Eight. Matt Hererra had 18 for Plano (2-4, 1-2).

Bloom 79, Bremen 69-Brandon Cole fired in 35 points including three third-quarter three-pointers, to lift Bloom (5-3) over Bremen. Kerry Ellis added 17 for the winners.
