Never before, says Pat Metheny, has he encountered the response that his seven-member jazz ensemble enjoyed during a summer tour of the Soviet Union.
”We were greeted like we were the Beatles,” Metheny said. ”It was overwhelming. They made us feel totally at home and brought an intensity to the concerts as listeners that was absolutely inspiring to play for.
”It was probably the best experience I`ve ever had as a touring musician.”
The Metheny Group performed in 13 sell-out concerts in Leningrad, Moscow and Kiev before as many as 10,000 people at each three-hour show.
