Apprentice jockey E.T. Baird will have to cool his heels in his quest for the Hawthorne riding title following a ruling by track stewards Monday.
The officials slapped Baird with a 5-day suspension for interference caused by his mount, Royal Proctor, in the Royal Glint Stakes for 2-year-olds Saturday. The unofficial winner was disqualified and placed second for making contact with Two Bagger in the late stretch.
Baird`s suspension will begin Friday. With 16 racing days left, it appears the days will only delay the 19-year-old`s drive to the top of the rider standings. He trails the injured Earlie Fires by 11 wins.
