University of Wisconsin scientists report that an experimental drug, thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), has helped some patients suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig`s Disease. The drug was beneficial in stabilizing or even improving muscle function and strength in some patients with the deadly muscle-wasting disease, they said. ”TRH is not a cure for ALS–this must be emphasized–but it has been reported to improve symptoms in some patients,” said Dr. S. Mouchly Small, president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which is supporting the research.
