`West 57th,” CBS`s new newsmagazine, gets its second test in the A.C. Nielsen ratings at 9 p.m. Tuesday on CBS-Ch. 2. Despite critics` accolades, the numbers for last week`s premiere indicated that the show still has a long way to go with viewers. It ranked third in the overnight ratings, finishing behind repeats of ”Remington Steele” on NBC-Ch. 5 and ”MacGruder & Loud”
on ABC-Ch. 7. The ratings were based on a 10-city average.
In Chicago, ”West 57th” did better than it did in most of the other large markets. It finished ahead of ”Remington Steele” but behind
”MacGruder & Loud.” ”MacGruder & Loud” will not return in the fall but
”Remington Steele” will.
This week ”West 57th” will include Meredith Vieira`s segment on how black musicians who created music in the 1950s and `60s were financially short-changed for their efforts. Bob Sirott will profile comedian Martin Short and John Ferrugia will look into computer hackers.
