NBC will try an interesting experiment, two doses of the ”Today” show gang Monday. Hosts Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley, weatherman Willard Scott and other regulars will show up in a prime-time special, ”Today–At Night,” at 7 p.m. on NBC-Ch. 5 as well as on their early morning gig. The network hopes you`ll like the evening show enough to start your day with ”Today” and therefore, beef up their ratings over their stiffest competition, ABC`s ”Good Morning America.”
Guests for the evening show are the hot-hot duo from ”Miami Vice,” Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, as well as Speaker of the House Tip O`Neill.
Scott, known for his weather report remotes from across the country, will highlight some of his travels. Newsman John Palmer will review the last year`s major news events.
