The instrumentation goes back to the Red Norvo Trio–vibes (Jamal), bass

(Dyani) and guitar (Dorge). But even though most of this delightful album has a low-key, chamber-jazz flavor, the Jamal-Dyani-Dorge trio is a very gritty, funky unit–graced by Jamal`s brittle, probing lines, Dyani`s deep-toned, African swing and Dorge`s quirky electronic colorations.

Best of all, these three men really listen–proposing their ideas within frameworks that range from rather orthodox tunes to near free-jazz patterns, and then responding to each other with a subtlety that justifies the ”chamber jazz” tag. So even though the surface of this music is far from flamboyant, there is a humaneness and depth here that yields new pleasures every time through.
