An eight-week avant-garde video series called ”Alive from Off Center”
debuts at 11 p.m. Tuesday on WTTW-Ch. 11. The first show is a sampling of the other seven programs that feature performance works designed for video from Laurie Anderson and other progressive artists, composers, choreographers and playwrights.
A future show will present a video based on playwright Sam Shepard`s
”Tongues.”
Videos on the premiere include Anderson`s ”Sharkey`s Machine,” a computer graphics video styled as a video game; humorist William Wegman`s
”Singing Stomach” and ”A Dog Named Man Ray”; and percussionist David Van Tieghem`s ”Ear to the Ground” in which he plays city streets with a drumstick.
The show`s host is Susan Stamberg, the award-winning host of National Public Radio`s ”All Things Considered.”
