You might see a future classical music star on ”The Illinois Young Performers Competition” at 8 p.m Wednesday on WTTW-Ch. 11. Five exceptional Illinois youths will compete for up to $22,000 in scholarship money in a live performance from Orchestra Hall. (TV stereo and simulcast on WFMT, FM 98.7.)

The host is Tom Hulce, the actor who played Mozart in ”Amadeus.” The youths will perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Erich Leinsdorf.

The musicians and their selections are Rachel Barton, a 10-year-old Chicago violinist, who will play Saint-Saens` ”Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”; Sang Mee Lee, 13-year-old Highland Park violinist, Vieuxtemps` ”Violin Concerto No. 4”; Tania Lee, 15-year-old Lincolnwood pianist, Beethoven`s ”Piano Concerto No. 3”; Jasmine Lin, 12-year-old Flossmoor violinist, Saint Saens` ”Violin Concerto No. 3”; and David Perry, 17-year-old Edwardsville violinist, Ravel`s ”Tzigane.”

The winners will be named at the end of the 1 1/2-hour competition, which is sponsored by Illinois Bell and WTTW-Ch. 11.
