The producers of ”Frontline,” the Public Broadcasting Service`s award-winning show, aren`t very specific when dealing with Tuesday`s program at 9 p.m. on WTTW-Ch. 11, but they are predicting an investigative report of

”national and worldwide implications.”

The program, ”Buying the Bomb,” marks the debut of Seymour Hersh on the series. Hersh is a former newspaper reporter who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970 for his report on the My Lai massacre during the Vietnam War. ”Buying the Bomb” details the efforts of a Third World nation to obtain the elements for the construction of a nuclear bomb.

Hersh has reported on the secret bombings of Cambodia, CIA involvement in Chile, and CIA domestic spying. His 1983 book, ”The Price of Power,”

detailed Henry Kissinger`s role in the Nixon White House.

Hersh has worked for six months on Tuesday`s report. It was produced by Mark Obenhaus, who won an Emmy for Frontline`s ”Abortion Clinic.” Judy Woodruff is the program`s host.
