A 64-year-old Flossmoor woman died Sunday after officers shot at her when responded to a report of a domestic disturbance, according to Flossmoor police.

Illinois State Police, who are investigating the shooting, said Monday the woman was holding a knife when Flossmoor officers arrived at the door of her apartment shortly after noon Sunday, and officers then shot her.

Flossmoor police were not offering additional details beyond a brief statement issued Sunday, according to Chief Tod Kamleiter, though he confirmed information state police provided that the woman was armed with a knife.

“For us to make any comment would compromise the investigation,” Kamleiter said.

State police said no Flossmoor officers were injured.

Flossmoor police said officers responded to the 1400 block of Joyce Drive for a reported domestic disturbance “resulting in an officer-involved shooting.”

The woman was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Madeline Miller. She was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Miller suffered multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Kamleiter said he could not discuss whether the officers have been reassigned to other duties while the investigation continues.
