A man and woman who were allegedly fleeing police were killed Sunday night when their motorcycle crashed in Harvey, officials said.

The pair was ejected from the motorcycle after crashing into a vehicle at the intersection of 147th and Wood streets around 8:30 p.m., Harvey Police Chief Eddie Winters said.

The female victim, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was identified as 35-year-old Octavia Harper, of Chicago Heights, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The male motorcycle driver has not been identified.

The relationship between the crash victims was not immediately known.

Winters said the police pursuit of the motorcycle began in Midlothian, continued into Posen and ended with the crash in Harvey.

Neither Midlothian nor Posen police immediately returned requests for comment on the pursuit.

Winters said Harvey police responded to the crash but never were in pursuit of the motorcycle, which apparently was wanted for traffic violations.

He said he did not know whether officers from Midlothian and Posen were actively pursuing the motorcycle when it crashed.
