The election Tuesday ushered in changes to the Buffalo Grove Village Board, with a new village president-elect, and reelection of village trustees along with the rise of a new one, according to unofficial vote totals from the clerks’ offices of Cook and Lake counties.
Eric Smith ran unopposed to succeed Beverly Sussman as village president. After being sworn in next month, Smith will take over as the town’s top official, moving from his current post as village trustee.
“We have made wonderful accomplishments in the eight years that I’ve been president, and not just me, but me, the board and our village manager,” Sussman previously told Pioneer Press. “We’re all part of everything that takes place and happens. No one works alone, we all work together. That’s very important.”
Sussman said she looks forward to returning to “a normal life,” citing that desire as a main reason for not seeking another term.
Frank Cesario, the current chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, was elected to fill the seat Smith vacated, according to the unofficial vote totals.
The unofficial counts indicate Village Clerk Janet Sirabian, and trustees David Weidenfield and Gregory Pike, were each reelected to their seats.
The northwest suburb of Buffalo Grove spans both Cook and Lake counties.
