Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The White Sox miss Tim Anderson. That much is clear after the Sox lost their first five games after the All-Star break.

Anderson has been out since June 26 after suffering a sprained right ankle the previous night at Fenway Park.

Manager Rick Renteria said Tuesday that Anderson is “getting better every day” but did not have a timetable for the shortstop’s return.

“We hope that this whole rest of the week continues to put him in a positive place, and then we’ll make a determination,” Renteria said. “It’s day to day in terms of how he’s feeling and the strength he’s developing to be able to put together a program potentially for a rehab assignment.”

Renteria said the absence of Anderson, who was hitting .317 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs, is noticeable.

“He’s an elite defender and an elite major-league player, truth be told, if not an All-Star-caliber type of player,” Renteria said. “(Leury Garcia) has done a nice job filling in. These guys are trying to do the best they can filling in for him. But certainly you miss Timmy.

“He’s an excellent defender and ballplayer, so the path that we have taken has to be in his best interest. We’ll keep in mind how he’s doing, and when he’s ready to go, he’ll let us know.”
