The White Sox and first-round pick Andrew Vaughn finalized a $7.221 million bonus Wednesday, setting a franchise record for the largest bonus given to a player selected in the amateur draft.
Vaughn, 21, a junior first baseman from the University of California, was the third overall pick in the June draft. The 6-foot, 214-pound Vaughn batted .374 with 15 home runs, 50 RBIs and 50 runs in 52 games. Vaughn had a .539 on-base percentage — third highest in the nation.
Vaughn’s bonus exceeds the $6.582 million bonus the Sox gave left-hander Carlos Rodon in 2014. Vaughn is the highest drafted player in Cal history.
