The Chicago White Sox added outfield depth, acquiring Adam Haseley in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for minor-league pitcher McKinley Moore, the team announced Tuesday morning.

Haseley, the No. 8 pick in the 2017 draft, has a career .264/.322/.373 slash line with five home runs and 39 RBIs in 116 games during parts of three seasons with the Phillies. He bats and throws left-handed.

He hit .190 (4-for-21) with a double in nine games last season. Haseley was the team’s starter in center field on opening day before being placed on the restricted list on April 14. According to MLB.com, he left in mid-April for personal reasons, returned a month later and spent the rest of the season in the minors. He combined to slash .233/.313/.325 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 56 games at three minor-league levels in 2021.

Haseley, who turns 26 on April 12, had a .266 average with five home runs and 26 RBIs in 67 games for the Phillies in 2019 and hit .278 with 13 RBIs in 40 games in 2020. He led all Phillies outfielders with 13 defensive runs saved in 2019.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic had the initial report of Haseley going to the Sox. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and Todd Zolecki first reported that Moore was headed to the Phillies.

Moore went 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 37 relief appearances for Class-A Kannapolis and Winston-Salem in 2021. He was the No. 27 prospect in the Sox system, according to MLB.com.

The trade comes a day after the Sox announced right fielder Andrew Vaughn was diagnosed with a hip pointer injury (bruised pelvis on the right side). His initial return projection is one to two weeks.

Some of the options for right field already in camp include Gavin Sheets, Leury García, Adam Engel and Micker Adolfo.

To make room for Haseley on the 40-man roster, the Sox designated outfielder Blake Rutherford for assignment.

The Sox also announced nine other roster moves, optioning pitcher Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte and reassigning pitchers Tanner Banks, Wes Benjamin, Brandon Finnegan, Andrew Pérez, Caleb Freeman, Tyler Johnson and Yacksel Ríos, and outfielder Yoelqui Céspedes to minor-league camp.

The Sox have 42 players remaining in camp: 19 pitchers, five catchers, 10 infielders and eight outfielders.
