Five out of the last six NFL draft’s featured a quarterback as the first-overall pick. Will the 2021 NFL Draft follow that trend?
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and a third-team AP All-American in 2020, ranked ninth in the FBS in completion percentage (69.2%) and eighth in passing yards with with 315.3 per game. Lawrence threw for 3,153 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games, missing two games after testing positive for COVID-19.
Even though Lawrence is recovering from a shoulder injury, he is expected to be the top pick in the draft. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein says there are areas of concern with Lawrence. “Lawrence’s poise, decision-making and accuracy all took a hit in 2020 when he was forced to work under pressure,” Zierlein said. “His performance against Virginia Tech showed there is still room for improvement with how he processes his options against the blitz. There were times when he looked encumbered by his play-action-heavy, shotgun offense.”
