The Cubs signed 30 of their first 32 2019 draft picks before Friday’s deadline.
Catcher Wyatt Hendrie, a 10th-round selection, was the highest-drafted player who did not sign. The Antelope Valley (Calif.) Junior College product will play for San Diego State. The Cubs signed another catcher, sixth-rounder Ethan Hearn of Mobile (Ala.) Christian School, a $950,000 bonus to forgo his commitment to Mississippi State.

Second baseman Chase Strumpf, the Cubs’ second-round pick, is batting .345 with a .441 on-base percentage through his first seven games with Class A Eugene.
