Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you’re a Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox fan who can’t or won’t pay for a cable, satellite or streaming service, you take what you can get on free, over-the-air TV. So it matters which games Fox picks up.

The teams went all-in on pay TV and channels in which they’re equity partners — Marquee Sports Network for the Cubs and NBC Sports Chicago for the Sox — after the 2019 season.

That left those who rely on regular antennas for their television to get used to looking at their radios or apps and websites that relay play-by-play in text and graphics.

But as with last season, a few Fox regional games will be carried on Fox-32. Viewers in the Marquee and NBCSCH markets (and subscribers to services that don’t carry the channels) won’t be completely shut out.

Allowing for midseason schedule tweaks and a few dates listed as “to be determined,” the Cubs are set for five over-the-air broadcasts and the Sox three, including the “Field of Dreams” game against the New York Yankees in Dyersville, Iowa.

None of the Cubs games on Fox’s schedule is after the All-Star Break in mid-July, while two of the Sox network games are.

Three of the five Cubs games set to air on Fox-32 are against the St. Louis Cardinals. Two of the three Sox network games are against the Houston Astros.

The Cubs games set for Fox-32 are:

May 22 at the Cardinals

June 5 at the San Francisco Giants

June 12 vs. the Cardinals

June 26 at the Los Angeles Dodgers

July 10 vs. the Cardinals

The White Sox games on Fox’s broadcast schedule are:

June 19 at the Astros

July 17 vs. the Astros

Aug. 12 vs. the Yankees from the cornfield in Iowa

With the exception of the Thursday “Field of Dreams” game, all of the Fox dates are Saturday nights with the broadcasts set to begin at 6 p.m.

Cable’s FS1 plans to have some Cubs and White Sox games too. These include:

April 12, Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers, 6:30 p.m.

April 17, White Sox at Boston Red Sox, 3 p.m.

April 28, Cubs at Atlanta Braves, 6 p.m.

May 1, White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians, 3 p.m.

June 1, White Sox vs. Indians, 5 p.m.

All of the White Sox and Cubs FS1 dates, except the April 17 White Sox game, also will be on Spanish-language Fox Deportes. Of their Fox-32 games, the ones that won’t also be on Fox Deportes are the Cubs games on May 22, June 5 and July 10 and the White Sox game on July 17.

These are in addition to games ESPN already announced plans to carry.
