The Chicago Bears looked marginally better in Week 2 of the NFL season, and their Chicago-area TV ratings got marginally worse.

The CBS-2 broadcast with Ian Eagle and Charles Davis averaged a 23.6 household rating in the Bears’ home market as they improved to 2-0 with a 17-13 victory Sunday over the New York Giants.

That translates to 23.6% of area TV homes, a drop of 0.3 in the ratings — or fewer than 9,800 households — from the 23.9 rating Fox-32 averaged for the Bears season opener versus the Lions a week earlier, according to Nielsen estimates.

The audience Sunday grew steadily with each quarter-hour in the game’s final hour as the Giants mounted a second-half comeback from a 17-0 halftime deficit. The numbers peaked at a 26.2 household rating as the Bears held off a final rally in the telecast’s final 15 minutes.

Nothing else on Chicago television Sunday, not even other football games, came close to drawing an audience that size.
