With the cold weather really setting in, this weekend’s list of things to do in Chicago includes a number of options to put you in a warmer mindset, including a plant pop-up, a dance party, Marz’s Microdose brunch and more.
Neighborhood after-hours festivities
More than 90 different businesses in Andersonville will push back their closing times this weekend for Late Night Andersonville, a neighborhood shopping event to showcase local vendors. Both restaurants and stores will be offering special deals, as well as refreshments for guests. Browsing is OK too, as there will be plenty to do without buying, including caroling, other live music, pictures with Santa and a holiday trolley along Clark Street. 5-9 p.m. Friday, all locations in Andersonville, no cover; andersonville.org
‘He’s not Heavy, he’s my aloe plant’
The clouds are going grey for the winter, sucking the natural light out of your apartment, house, etc. during the next few months. The occasional houseplant can help battle the dark-weather blues, and Plant Ship’s pop up event this weekend provides an easy chance to pick one up. Grab yourself a beverage while you’re at it, courtesy of the neighborhood favorite Heavy Feather. 8-11 p.m. Sunday, The Heavy Feather, second floor, 2357 N. Milwaukee Ave., no cover; facebook.com/events
Fat Shallot and sips
Get a little yuletide respite, and treat yourself to a bite and a beer when Fat Shallot, one of the city’s most popular food trucks, pulls up to Begyle Brewing in Ravenswood. The Shallot will offer its regular menu of classic sandwiches, fries, sides and salads. Begyle offers plenty of variety on its tap handles, plus certain beers in cans to-go. 3:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Begyle Brewing, 1800 W. Cuyler Ave., no cover; facebook.com/events

‘I’m tripping brunch, man’
Marz Brewing’s Sunday brunch is called Microdose Sundays, a “chance for a sub-perceptual alteration through auditory and culinary experimentation.” In layman’s terms, that means a special brunch menu for the day, as well as a live DJ spinning moody tunes. Plus, there’s plenty of beverages both alcoholic and non-, including Marz’s CBD-infused elixirs. 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Marz Community Brewing, 3630 S. Iron St., no cover; facebook.com/MarzCommunityBrewing
Warm on the dance floor
Put yourself in a warmer state of mind this weekend with a Tropical Night dance party featuring salsa, bachata, cumbia and mambo spread across two rooms at Simone’s bar, each with its own soundtrack. Live music for the evening comes courtesy of DJ Bruce and DJ Marz, so lace up your dancing shoes (or boots) and cut up. 9 p.m.- 3 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, Simone’s, 960 W. 18th St., free before 10 p.m. with RSVP, $5 cover after; eventbrite.com
