Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and his wife, Mary Catherine, on Thursday placed their five-bedroom home in Southeast Ravenswood on the market for $1.65 million.
Gibbs, 49, was former President Barack Obama’s communications director while Obama was a senator. He also spent two years working in the White House as Obama’s first press secretary. Gibbs then served as global chief communications officer for Chicago-based McDonald’s from 2015 until 2019, and today is senior counsel for Bully Pulpit Interactive.
Built in 2014, the 4,500-square-foot house sits on an extra-deep lot. It has six bathrooms, two fireplaces, millwork, hardwood floors on the first and second levels, a primary bedroom with two walk-in closets, and a great room with built-in bookcases and coffered ceilings.
Other features include a large family room with custom built-ins and high ceilings, a lower level with a wet bar, and a kitchen with designer granite countertops, a Wolf stove, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a butler’s pantry with a wine refrigerator and two walk-in pantries.
Outside on the property are a heated front porch and sidewalk, a two-car garage and a custom-built outdoor kitchen.
The house went under contract fast, with the Gibbses striking a deal to sell it just four days after listing it.
Listing agent Alice Berger declined to comment.
The house had a $27,291 property tax bill for the 2019 tax year.
