Northwestern University President Henry Bienen on Monday said he plans to step down from the post he has held for more than a decade, making him one of the university’s longest-serving stewards. Bienen said he will retire Aug. 31, 2009. Bienen, 68, said institutions must be “refreshed regularly with new leadership” in a letter sent Monday morning to administrators, faculty and students at the Evanston campus.
