Sporting oversize black glasses in honor of the late Harry Caray, Jimmy Buffett was the latest to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch Sunday at Wrigley Field.

“I have your glasses, Harry,” Buffett shouted between the lyrics of the song, a trademark for Caray, the longtime Cubs play-by-play man. Caray died Feb. 18 at age 83.

Buffett — best known as a beachcombing singer and songwriter — said he is also an avid baseball fan. He owns two minor league baseball teams, one in Madison, Wis., and another in Ft. Myers, Fla. He said he learned to love baseball as a child while watching the minor league team in his hometown of Mobile, Ala.

“If I hadn’t done this, I would’ve done something in baseball,” Buffett said.

Buffett, who was in the Chicago area on tour, said he has something in common with the Cubs — a diehard following.

“My fans are as loyal as Cubs fans,” he said. “And I appreciate it.”
