A Cicero man is facing one count of first-degree murder after Chicago police say they identified him as the person who fired shots, killing a 68-year-old man in Bridgeport last month.
Gerardo Campos, 26, was arrested around 5 p.m. Thursday in the 5000 block of West 30th Place in Cicero, according to Chicago police. Campos is expected to appear in bond court Sunday.
Alva “Al” Besst, a familiar face in his community, was shot in the back of the head while he was driving his 1985 Lincoln Town Car on 31st Street in his lifelong neighborhood of Bridgeport. He was shot around 6 p.m. just west of Halsted Street.

Besst was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than 45 minutes later from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
