Two men, 18 and 28, were in one vehicle while the boy was in another when the attack happened about 1:25 p.m. in the 7400 block of South State Street, according to Sgt. Rocco Alioto, a spokesman for Chicago police.
The boy, 1, suffered a graze wound to the head and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez and police.
The men were both shot in the chest and taken by a private vehicle to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition, police said.
