The “Ghost Adventures” team filmed in the Joliet Correctional Center cell briefly occupied by John Wayne Gacy for a “serial killer spirits” miniseries slated to air in October.

Gacy, who killed at least 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978, was in the maximum-security-prison-turned-tourist-attraction before being sent to the Stateville Correctional Center for his 1994 execution. Filming of the Joliet episode of “Ghost Adventures: Serial Killer Spirits” took place last month.

The four-part miniseries features the Gacy cell; the Indiana location where H.H. Holmes killed and dismembered a boy; Iowa’s Squirrel Cage Jail, which housed ax-murderer Jake Bird; and a Utah abandoned building that is reportedly linked to Ted Bundy. Each episode is slated to premiere on a different Saturday in October on the Travel Channel.

A two-hour special airing on Halloween showcases the Rhode Island home that inspired the horror film, “The Conjuring.”

Zak Bagans, who grew up in Glen Ellyn and attended Glenbard West High School, has hosted “Ghost Adventures” for more than a decade. Season 18 has been airing this summer.
