On Thursday, First Folio Theatre announced casting for its world premiere of “Shrew’d,” a jazz musical that places “The Taming of the Shrew” in 1930’s Chicago. The show will open July 14 and run through August 19.
The brazen role of Kate will be played by Sierra Schnack, while Christopher W. Jones will play her cocky suitor Petruchio.
Emma Rosenthal will co-star as Bianca, and Tony Carter will play Lucentio. Other actors in the show include Sasha Kostyrko (Tranio), George Keating (Baptista), Steven Strafford (Hortensio), Karmann Bajuyo (Gremio), Jazmín Corona (Saleswoman), Ray Andrecheck (Vincentio), and Sam Shankman (Biondello). The ensemble includes Isabella Andrews, Brice Baron, Laura Brennan, Eric Deutz, Rebecca Keeshin, Ted Kitterman, Thomas Squires, and Rachel Wagner.
Adapted by David Rice and Lydia Hiller, with original music and sound design by Christopher Kriz, and lyrics by Lydia Hiller and David Rice, the show will be directed by Johanna McKenzie Miller and choreographed by Ericka Mac.
All performances will take place on the grounds of the Mayslake Peabody Estate,1717 31st St, Oak Brook.
