The city is kicking off its free Millennium Park film series with a Chicago classic.

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” John Hughes’ 1986 movie about a suburban teenager’s day trip to the city, is set to be screened at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion June 21. Movies are scheduled to be shown on a 40-foot screen in the park at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday after that through Aug. 30.

Seating at the pavilion is first-come, first-served. Here is the schedule, announced Wednesday:

>> June 28: “Soul Food”

>> July 5: “A League of Their Own”

>> July 12: “Thelma and Louise”

>> July 19: “Moonstruck” and “Silence of the Lambs”

>> July 26: Kartemquin Films 50th anniversary celebration to celebrate the legacy of the Chicago film organization

>> Aug. 2: “West Side Story”

>> Aug. 9: “Grease”

>> Aug. 16: “Finding Nemo”

>> Aug. 23: “Purple Rain”

>> Aug. 30: Audience choice of favorite Chicago film, to be determined
