When a dish makes Urban Dictionary with a definition that’s safe for work, correct and delicious, then you know you should try it — and try it now. That is the 554 at Seven Treasures restaurant in Chicago’s Chinatown.

But you may know it well already, if you’re among the legion of late-night eaters who got it added to the lexicon. The dish is on the menu at Seven Treasures under its official description: BBQ Pork With Fried Eggs Over Rice ($5.95). That fits but fails to set the scene.

Picture this: a small oval platter heaped high with fluffy, fragrant steamed white rice, smothered on one side by fatty red slices of red-hued char siu (the barbecued pork) and on the other by two fried eggs, flecked with dark soy sauce — the runny yolks and you are both trembling in anticipation. This is a spoon dish (not chopsticks or fork), better to scoop up soft rice and slightly sweet barbecue meat, all glistening with golden broken yolk.

The code name is a holdover from its number on a former menu, owner Benjamin Au said at the restaurant around midnight recently. Some people come in and order a 554 without even knowing what it is, he added.

You can order the 554 anytime, but this, the restaurant’s best-selling dish, is perhaps most appreciated when nearby restaurant neighbors have closed and fireworks celebrating a White Sox victory are lighting up the sky at the other end of Wentworth Avenue.
