
The Illinois secretary of state driver services facility at the James R. Thompson Center in the Loop is back in business after being closed for more than a year due to the coronavirus.
The facility, in the basement of the Thompson Center at Clark and Randolph streets, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Face masks, social distancing and temperature checks are required.

Secretary of State Jesse White has extended the expiration date for all driver’s licenses and ID cards until Aug. 1, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline for obtaining a Real ID card for boarding airplanes and entering secure federal buildings until May 3, 2023.
