In 2014, trial lawyers opposing the retention of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier spent $2 million attempting to defeat him. A national group funded in part by large corporate donations kicked in nearly $1 million to keep him on the bench and narrowly prevailed.
