As conversations around postpartum depression have become more open in recent years, that shift is started to change government policies, too. In New York City, for example, efforts have paved the way for a new citywide health initiative run by ThriveNYC that will offer every first-time parent in the city access to at-home visits from health professionals.</p>

Though it hasn't been proven that love makes you physically sick, it does raise levels of cortisol, according to Richard Schwartz, associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Cortisol is a stress hormone that has been shown to suppress immune function, making you more likely to get sick.
