A DeKalb County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for allegedly punching, slapping, kicking, strangling, biting and threatening to kill a 71-year-old female family member in her home in Big Rock Township in 2025, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Koda R. Uebel, 20, of Victor Township in DeKalb County, agreed to the sentence in exchange for pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder, the State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
According to statements presented in court by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Mark Stajdohar and Christopher McCall, Uebel attacked a female family member, 71, in her home in Big Rock Township in the early morning hours of May 31, 2025. He allegedly punched, slapped, kicked, strangled and bit her repeatedly across her face and body, a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office stated.
Other family members witnessed the incident over a home security camera and contacted 911, the news release said, and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene at the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue at around 12:06 a.m.
Through a locked front door, deputies observed Uebel striking the woman and heard him threaten to kill her, and the deputies forced entry into the home and intervened to assist her to safety, the State’s Attorney’s Office said in the news release.
Uebel then attacked the deputies, and a Taser was deployed, the news release said. He remained combative, the State’s Attorney’s Office said, biting one of the deputies during his arrest. Deputies said that he smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech.
He was ultimately taken into custody, the news release said, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
