A 23-year-old man from Sandwich has died, and another pedestrian was injured, in a hit-and-run crash Sunday in Yorkville, according to the Yorkville Police Department.

At around 5:13 p.m. Sunday, Yorkville police responded to a parking lot in the 300 block of East Veterans Parkway for a reported hit-and-run crash involving two pedestrians, a news release from the Yorkville Police Department said.

Upon arrival, officers said they found two adults who had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene, according to the release.

Both of the individuals received emergency medical aid from responding officers and were taken to an area hospital, the news release said.

One of the pedestrians — Victor M. Hernandez Medina, 23, of Sandwich — was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police department. The other was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, a vehicle matching the description of the one that had fled the scene, along with its driver, was located in Oswego, the news release from the police department said.

The driver was taken into custody as a suspect, but no charges had been filed as of Monday in connection with the incident, per the news release.

Preliminary investigation indicates that those involved had arranged to meet at the location prior to the incident, according to the police department, and that the driver of the vehicle intentionally struck the two individuals before fleeing the area, the release said.

The investigation remains ongoing as investigators continue to collect and analyze evidence gathered, the news release said. The police department is being assisted with the investigation by the Kendall County Major Crimes Taskforce and the Illinois State Police.
