Six people were displaced after a fire Monday morning on Aurora’s West Side left a home uninhabitable, according to the Aurora Fire Department.

On Monday at around 6:27 a.m., the Aurora Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1100 block of North Randall Road in Aurora, a news release from the fire department said.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the roof at the rear of a 1½-story single-family home, according to the department. All occupants were already outside when firefighters arrived.

The incident was ultimately upgraded to a second alarm as crews worked to bring the fire under control, the news release said.

Crews initiated an interior fire attack and did searches of the home while working to access fire that had spread into concealed spaces in the attic and roof, per the department. As portions of the roof began to lose structural integrity, firefighters temporarily transitioned to a defensive attack, officials said. Once conditions improved, they were able to access the attic from the exterior and extinguish remaining fire.

A total of 24 personnel — including four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and two chief officers — responded to the scene, the news release said.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported, according to the fire department, but the residence was deemed uninhabitable as a result of fire damage, displacing six adults.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Aurora Fire Department fire investigators.
